3:33⅓ - Sasha Berliner - Ephemerality

Sasha Berliner brings me some energy on vibraphone that I don’t always get from the vibraphone. Namely, I get a sense of harmonic energy and straight up regular ass energy from her that really fits for me. The album is not a scorcher from end to end, but she seems to be willing to go off, cover the whole ass instrument, work those mallets and then bring in moments of intimacy. It’s cool, sincerely, but it’s not COOL Jazz. Often one can equate the vibraphones with something mellow, something static, something dinner jazzy. NOT ALWAYS. Calm down Steve Roehm. But, there’s an element of that and hearing Sasha gives me more ideas, more real estate. Boom, it’s a Tuesday. It’s a weird week.
