3:33⅓ - The Meters - Find Yourself

Here’s the Meters standing in front of a photo of an ample rear end.

I love how the Meters do funk, I love how the Meters do soul. I love almost all of what the members of the Meters do on their solo records as well. I grew up knowing one thing about the Meters which was the two disc Rhino set “Funkify Your Life”. I grew up in the “Best of” era of music. You grabbed a Best Of album, paid top dollar for it and unless you fell in LOVE with the band you might not buy all the records. I listened to Funkify your Life so much and it opened my mind up so wide when I heard the live album “Uptown Rulers”. Almost every corner of the Meters discography has opened me up to new parts of their story. In this case I grabbed this record cause it has a famous hip-hop sample on it. The song Find Yourself is sampled by Naughty By Nature for the song “Feel Me Flow”. Usually if a song is used on a big time hip-hop record you simply can’t find the vinyl for less than a bazillion dollars but this one was regular, maybe $8 or so. Excellent. Okay, and then let’s just mention Treach. I asked my wife who the most attractive man in hip-hop is and she said Nas. Sure, he’s a looker. But honestly, Treach. I think it’s Treach. Do you have an opinion on the most attractive man in hip-hop? Email it to my wife racheldlevitt@gmail.com. What a treat.
